Beyond ACE's

A Deeper Look at Behavior & Health by Dr. Barbara Sorrels

1.5 clock hours for Teachers, LPC/LMFT, LCSW & PhD

In recent years the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study has thrust the topic of trauma and early adversity into public awareness and the national conversation. Professional development conferences for teachers are focusing on “trauma informed” education. Counselors and therapists are receiving training in “trauma informed” practice. Though the ACE study has played a preeminent role in bringing trauma and the impact that it has on the well-being of children and adults, it does not tell the entire story. There are additional experiences that play a significant role in the health and functioning of our nation’s children that are not addressed.

This webinar will move beyond the ACE study to look at additional adverse experiences that alter the trajectory of children’s lives. And we will also offer solutions by taking a look at Protective and Compensatory Experiences, a questionnaire developed by scholars from Oklahoma State University, Amanda Morris and Jennifer Hayes Gruedo.
